Hi Christa-
I was wondering if you had any general petite advice for winter boots and shoes. I'm going to Pittsburgh, PA for Christmas and stilettos and pumps don't do well in soft, muddy grass. Any ideas for more casual-looking boots with a thicker high heel, but don't look too chunky for someone 4'10"?
Thanks as usual for your great blog!

Hey D!
I know cold, snowy, slushy, winters being here in Toronto. No stilettos allowed, unless you bring a pair for your "indoor shoes" to parties. Which I have a habit of doing.
I just picked up these brown boots (above) from Payless. They're from the girls section, so they're extra warm, skid proof and they have arch support! They design the girls boots with better winter functionality and they're adorable. If they're too cutesy for you, they also have styles sans pom poms.
I also picked up the black booties for days when I don't want to wear tall boots. They're not as warm, but they're very chic and "aspen" looking. Perfect for boot cut and wide leg pants. They'd even be great with black opaque tights. These are from the women's section.
Both of these heels have narrower wedges, so they won't overwhelm your small frame, but you'll still get a few inches.
Note: A size 6.5 womens translates to a 4.5 girls.

4 Petites are Chatty:
Love the black shoes!
I happened to be a payless today and seen both of these boots. the black are really nice and perfect for the coldddd wetttt weather.. great advice.
Yeah, I love the quilted look. Thanks for the advice! I'll give Payless a try the next time I go shopping.
I think both pairs of boots look like cheap garbage. Payless makes shoes that might get you through one winter if you work in "town" but I don't see them holding up to a Maine winter. I'm not rich so I can't pay for really expensive footwear but I sure would prefer to pay a little bit extra to get a quality pair of boots that will last me a few seasons instead of just one. The tip to buy in the girls' section is a good one, though. I find also that for a more casual look (when it's appropriate) that boys' shoes also fit well and tend to be better constructed than girls'. BTW, I just found this blog and as a small woman with style, living in rural Maine, I am SO excited to become of member of this great community!
