New Petite Store Find!

It called, SOMA I

They have no online presents, it's really a secret gem. PF's can walk in there and try on the sweetest button up tailored dress shirts and walk out with shirts that looked like they were made to order.

All of their tops fit petite. They aren't marketed or sized in that way but they are.

Next time I'm in, I'll bring my camera and my Visa and buy a bunch to sell on Ebay. I'll let you know when I do.

Petite Bras & Panties

Hi, What a great concept for a blog. I'm desperately seeking petite bras and panties in Seattle. Any ideas?

Leslie

Hi Leslie,

There's a shop called Bellefleur who specializes in bra sizes starting at 32A. Here's their info:

720 N. 35th Street
Seattle, Washington 98103
tel 206-545-0222

If you are smaller then a 32, like many petite women try online at
Lula Lu.com
. They offer sizes 30AA, 30A, 30B, 32AA, 32A, 32B, 34AA, 34A, 34B, 36AA, 36A, 36B, 38AA, 38A. Most of these sizes are impossible to find in stores. You have 21 days to return unworn product with all tags attached (see their full policy, for more details).

For panties, I love the:
Hanky Panky Low Rise Thong
.
They're super comfy and pretty.

Baby It's Getting Cold Outside

Is your Winter brutaly cold? Looking for a warm, cozy and flattering coat?

I just finished shopping for my winter coat, to shield me from the Toronto cold. Us "Petite Fashionistas" have to make being warm a priority, because no one looks good or feels fab when they're freezing. Look for a style that goes in at the waist creating the hourglass shape. It might be tempting to shop in the kids department, but you might end up looking like a little girl all bundled up. Looking for shape in your coat is crucial, because it's really easy to look overwhelmed in a big puffy coat. I found mine at a Chinese Shopping Mall in Toronto. Look for stores that cater to an asian clientele. When you go off the beaten track you could find great quality, unique designer and without the designer tag. If price isn't an issue try Andrew Marc, who makes petite coats, that are irresistibly warm and stylish. Also try these common destinations who stock petite coats; Ann Taylor, Liz Claiborne, Burlington Coat Factory, JC Penny and Macy's.

Who Are You Wearing?

Quotes from L'OREAL FASHION WEEK in Toronto

"I am wearing all of my experience. It is a reflection of who I am, who I want to be, but also remininscent of what made me who I am today."

The dress and jacket featured is designed by David Dixon.

"I'm wearing what feels good. I'm wearing boots that make me feel sexy and smart, I'm wearing wide leg pants that breathe and leave me room to eat. I'm wearing hats that make people turn their head. I'm wearing my clothes, they aren't wearing me"

Purple Reigns!

From clothing to cosmetics purples ascent to regal status has been largely due (in my opinion) to the may ways that it can be worn.
Try using purple for a strikingly different smokey eye for fall. Purple is also a great eyeshadow colour for those of you with brown eyes; it makes the eyes pop.

In your wardrobe, pair purple with black, chocolate, caramel, camel, ivory and grey. If your feeling a little bit more daring wear purple and orange or mustard yellow.

I've noticed that in recent weeks, that I too have been wearing a lot of purple; I purchased 3 new tops in this fabulous colour. Today I paired my bright purple wrap top with black pants, a nude camisole and a baby pink necklace and matching earrings.

Toronto Fashion Week Style

PETITE ON THE STREET

Here are pics of some PF's I stopped at Toronto Fashion Week, who caught my eye.

All these ladies are under 5'4". They all own their style and have chosen looks that flatter their small frames.

Take note of the hair accessories; wraps, hats, and glittery headbands!

The cropped motorcycle jacket is really flattering and finishes her look.

Notice how many of them have accentuated their waists, by using fitted styles or a belt.

Binns say, "Growing up and even now people would say to me you're so tall, because I am 6'0" tall. I never had a problem with my height, and never really thought about it. I was an athlete most of my life so my circle of peers were also tall, sometimes I was surprise when others would comment. I just wanted to create a line that focused on luving our bodies whether tall, short, plus size or slim.

    Accessorize

Today as I was doing errands, I happened to stroll by one of the stores that I have always wanted to check out, but just didn’t have the time. Today was different however. Since it happened to be pay day, temptation got the better of me and I just could not resist.

I don’t know if it was the glitter that caught my attention through the window, or the hats that enticed me to go in. I have to admit to all of you that I love accessories and simply had to check it out. No regrets indeed.

“Accessorize” is located on 2614 Yonge Street (a few blocks north of Yonge & Eglinton near Eglinton TTC station). Their inventory is from the United Kingdom. They have a great selection on hats, hair accessories, gloves, belts, mini-umbrellas, – you name it. Anything classified as accessories, I believe I saw.

As soon as I walked in, I noticed that many of the items stand out – especially their purses. The purses are trendy, with unique details and I bet that you might not see someone else carrying the same purse – or at least not very often.

I loved their selections in my main weakness. Hats. I purchased the “Cord Diamante and Flap Baker Boy”, which can be found on their website mentioned below. You will like the range of colours, fabrics, and details on some of these accessories that make them quite unique.

Also, the customer service was great. The store manager Fernanda, informed me that two other locations exist in Toronto. As for this particular store, they receive new inventory every Monday. I have to go back to get another hat.

Check out their website at www.accessorizeincanada.ca or if you can, visit their store in person and expand your collection on the items that every one knows can make or break an outfit.

The long necklaces are most flattering on petites' who are have smaller busts. They will elongate your look, by creating that vertical visual line.

All petite body types will find the belts flattering. If you want to create the look of longer legs wear the belt closer to your natural waist then your hips.

The belt will look best on petites' when paired with a wider pant leg.

high style, while at the same time stating professionalism. I recently
discovered that www.bluefly.com offers a selection of Prada & Gucci
wear (yes in petite, small sizes) for just about any event. You can

    Sewing is Always an Option

Here's a tip that came today from a reader...

    Christa,

I stumbled across your blog today, and I LOVE IT!

It's just jam packed with great fashion and shopping advise for petite women.

Another avenue to explore is the resurgence of petite women now sewing their own clothes. I grew so weary of trying to find adult clothing to fit my 5'-1", 105 pound 40 year old frame, that I started sewing my own clothing, even jeans! It's just another option for a petite gals looking for flattering, stylish, well fitting and affordable clothes. It's not as difficult to do as one might think.

Here is a link to a jeans pattern that I did a review on for patternreview.com (nayy)

    5 feet & 107lbs

    Hello Petite Fashionista,
I am 5' but not over weight coming in @ 107 lbs. Could you give me a general idea on what clothes to stay away from? I'm thinking short jackets, boot leg jeans etc. is what I should wear. However, what about regular pants though. If you could just give me general ideas, I would appreciate it.

    Dear fellow PF,

    Here are my suggestions:

    1. Avoid boxy jackets, sweaters, shirts and coats. Opt for well tailored garments
that come in slightly at the waist, to give you definition.

    2. The wide leg pant and jean are really in style and also very flattering on us
shorter gals. Pair your wide legs with a heel and choose a style that sits a
little higher then what we've seen in past years.

    3. Cropped style jackets are flattering, but they still need to have shape to them.

    4. A wrap dress will do wonders for your frame. Whether you're busty or small
chested it will make the most of your assets.

    5. The A-line skirt would be flattering as well. Keep the length shorter then 2"
    below your knee.

For more specific advice, please feel free to book a personal consultation via email or phone.

    Petite Friendly Trends

Bustier Dresses Make you appear taller with the high waist line.

Short Skirts Have always been our friend. Pair it with black opaque tights and dark shoes for the streamlined look. Also, when you wear dark tights it lessens the "too sexy" effect, while making your legs look long and lean. If you have very slim legs that you are self conscious about, choose a textured pair of tights.

    5 Ways To Fake It

I want all PF's to love who they are; your shape, height, and everything that makes you an individual. The title comes from tonights episode of Ugly Betty, when Wilhelmina ordered one of the MODE workers to re-do the peice on "5 Ways To Fake It".

So here are the 5 ways to appear taller, sexier and more confident!

    Pump Up the Volume

Add volume to your "do" at the crown. Whether your hair is in a pony, half up or down, work that extra inch or 2!

    Heels

I know some think flat shoes are practical and a must have. To each her own but, personally I don't think you need to result to flats, for a few reasons. Firstly, they aren't better for your feet; you're much better off with a slight heel or wedge that supports your arch. I'm not just talking about vanity, although they will make all your ASSets look better. I spoke to an expert at a "comfort first" shoe store, who confirmed this. I love it when you don't have to give up something you love for reasons of age or health! Saying that, you most often need to "invest" in quality shoes with a heel height of 3 inches or less (for the comfort factor).

    Tailoring

Your clothes should enhance your shape, not camouflage it. For all petites', no matter what your shape the most important tailoring is done at the waist. Whether it's a jacket, coat, or dress shirt; it should come in at your natural waist (just below your rib cage). Your whole wardrobe doesn't need to be tailored, there are some exceptions, including swingy, A-line tunics and dresses. If you can't find key pieces that fit you properly bring them to the tailor (asap) or when in a pinch neatly create two folds (vertically) in the centre back of the shirt, jacket or coat and secure with a pretty brooch. If you do it right, it will be personally tailored and you'll get tons of compliments on your creativity.

    Tone on Tone

Simply, it makes your legs look longer. Who doesn't want that? In the summer it's about nude or gold shoes with bare legs and in the Fall & Winter it's about opaque tights with matching shoes or boots.

    Posture

Like our mothers said, stand up straight! Your whole body will look trimmer and longer. Plus, you'll look like you're the most confident, together woman on the street.

Who knew these two were friends! Here's Mary-Kate Olsen and Kylie Minogue strolling through London, looking completely inspiring! Here's Kylie, pulling off the ever impossible ankle boot. I still refuse to wear it, or suggest it as a trend to follow. If you do decide to try, take a cue from MK. She paired hers with tights, which looks more streamlines.
