A Petite Shopping Affair

Here's contributor Valery reporting on shopping online at PETITE AFFAIR!

Hey ladies! For you all you web based shop-aholics (such as myself), here is a website that I have recently discovered during my web-surfing expeditions – or searching for an excuse to shop as some would call it.

Petite Affair is a brand name from the U.K. founded in 2005 which means our plight is being heard! There seems to be more brand names available to petites out there. Although the selection isn’t as vast as other clothing sites (remember this brand is relatively new) they definitely offer unique pieces that not only would make the petite stand out fashionably but also offer that subtle coquette flare. They offer casual, business, evening, weekend, and even accessories.

Aside from catering to petites what I find appealing about their clothes is the details and unique colours and patterns available. A great example is the “Essential Jersey Cardigan” which has stripes, and is given a feminine touch by the bow used to tie the cardigan. Another great example is the “Lemon Silk Dress”. Trust me when I say that I have never been that interested in wearing yellow, but after seeing pictures of this dress I would be more than ready to throw that notion out the window, and add this dress to my closet. Or how about the “Diamante Clasp Cardigan”, I think you’ll get my point when you check the site out.

Lucky for us in Canada with the Canadian dollar doing so well (keeping fingers crossed that it stays that way for a while longer) as it has been, we can shop for brands available overseas. As previously mentioned, Petite Affair is in the U.K. so prices are in pounds. However, if you’re not ready to order you can request a catalogue for £2.00 , and what’s cool about this site is that it has information available for all your questions – you can even ask Debbie the owner questions.

As for me, I’m thinking about purchasing the “White Ruche Jersey Shirt” as a birthday gift for myself (or is it really my birthday?). Then again, do I really need to have a reason or excuse to buy beautiful clothes? Honestly – not really.

Have You Ever Tried Color Contacts?

Makeup artist to the stars and fellow PF Mally Roncal uses Color Contact Lenses like an accessory. She uses them on movie sets, for red carpet events and on photo shoots. She advises that for the most natural look compliment the current color of your eyes, by adding a subtle but pretty difference. For example is your eyes are brown, try hazel. This way people will say, "You have gorgeous eyes", not "Are you wearing contacts?".

My friends at Lens Shopper.com have shared their knowledge with me on this subject, Here's what they have to say:

Have you ever tried using Color Contact Lenses? Today you can find a variety of colored contact lenses on the market, especially if you order them online.

There is a fairly big variety of colors to choose from, from more natural looking colors like blue, grey, green and brown. But also some more sensational colors like Red, Purple and pink.

The most important thing to remember before buying Contacts is always to consult your optician and let them have an opinion if lenses would work for you. Even if you aren’t in need of any type of correction this is important since you will have to get the right size of the lenses. A lot of the online retailers also demand a prescription before ordering the lenses.

Another important thing to remember before buying your Color Contact Lenses is that the lenses are different depending if you have dark eyes or blue eyes. For instance a person who wants to enhance their natural color should use a tinted lens while a person who wants to change their looks drastically with a new color will have to get some opaque contact lenses. These lenses do not let anything of the natural color through.

Can I Wear Tall Boots?

Hi, I would like to buy some knee high boots, but my sister told me that knee high boots would make me look shorter, or they would make me look like I'm wearing granny boots, so she advised me to buy ankle boots. But my cousin who is a bit taller than me (4' 11") wore knee-highs and they look good on her.
What is your opinion?

-~Julie

Hi Julie,

Yes you can! Tall boots can be very flattering on petites. My advice is to have them come taller the mid calf, the best height is at the knee. Pair your boots with matching opaque tights or jeans. If you liked the knee-highs on your cousin, you could wear those underneath with matching tights under the socks (for colder winters). I suggest that you only wear ankle boots with pants, because they will definitely make your legs look shorter. It sounds like your sister meant well, but she got the advise backwards, because I could never imagine tall boots looking granny like.

Hope this helps,
xx

Read: Style Therapy

After interviewing Rona Maynard this week, she was inspired to write an article called Style Therapy. Check it out by clicking the title.

Here's a preview:

The other day it snowed while leaves still clung to the trees. Sadistic weather forecasters were crowing about the chill ahead—to be followed, so they claimed, by rivers of slush. It was time for a bracing course of style therapy.

I reached for my down coat, which unlike all the other no-nonsense down coats is a soft shade of lavender, and cut to skim my body. In the pocket I keep my pink leather gloves. The colours make me think of hyacinths and Easter baskets, of rushing the season in the faithless warmth of a March afternoon to sip cappuccino at a sidewalk café. On the half-frozen sidewalks, people in black and brown scurried by with disgruntled expressions, as if bracing themselves for root canals. I looked down at my coat, which I found on an 80-percent off rack, and smiled at my good fortune.

Have a Great Weekend

Hi PF's!

I'm taking a much needed rest this weekend. I'm also taking a few meetings about PF.com, we're growing in readership and contributors! I will make sure to take time for me this weekend. I vow to be manicured, blowdried, massaged and exercised. Not to mention a little shopping...

I'm on the hunt for; cozy sweaters, super soft leggings, slippers, and pajamas (can you tell it's cold here?).

On my outings I'll be on the lookout for some inspiring looks for. "Petite on the Street".

This weekend: Dare to be glam!

An extra inch on your heels, pearls for day, 90's super model hair, or just a clear coat of polish on your neglected nails. Life’s too short not to take fashion risks! Who need to fit in? Dare to be the most dressed up! Dare to wear something sparkly to a coffee date. Glam it up! A life of glamour and style makes everything that much more interesting, fresh and invigorating.

Jode's Jewels

Artist, designer and fellow PF Jodi Foreman 5'1

If you're looking for a great holiday shopping event, why not organize one yourself?

What about hosting your own jewellery home party?

The hostess receives 10% of sales in jewellery and another 5% will go to a charity dedicated to mental illness.

When local fashionistas need to stand out they rely on Jode’s striking natural jewellery. Jodi Foreman, owner and designer of Jode’s Jewels, creates one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewelry. She never duplicates her designs so when you wear a JODE you’re wearing an original piece of art. Jodi says, “In a world where so much is mass-produced and individuality is sometimes lost, I give each purchaser something unique of her very own. My constantly evolving mood and energy is reflected in the distinctiveness of each piece.”

Jode’s Jewels features a variety of collections: Funky Costume (made from bright glittery crystals and beads); Wire Art (artistic wire, combined with crystals and semi-precious stones, intertwined to create body art); semi-precious Healing Stones; not only beautiful but with healing properties. Also, just out, Yarn Art! Yarn art is made with many different types of fibers, yarns, and ribbons, with stones and beads added. This line includes headbands, scarves and necklaces. The Ever So Lovely...

Natalie Portman 5'3

In case you didn't already admire her style and grace, take a look at this month's issue of Teen Vogue. She's a breath of fresh air in a see of overtly sexy icons. Natalie has always seemed to be well grounded and humble and this article goes to prove it. In the interview she says,"Everyone could be an E! True Hollywood Story. Everyone. Everyone has their sadnesses and tragedies and difficult times and nights they're embarrassed about. Unless you're a saint."

In her latest movie Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, she's looking for her "sparkle". Which she can rest assure that she never lacks luster on screen, in print or in real life.

What can we learn from her style?
Natalie dresses in an appealing way for both men and women interested in her style. She always looks relaxed, elegant and confident. Most importantly she doesn't have to worry about how she's going to feel after lunch, because she dresses in a way that fits her body, not a second skin.

Sometimes when you're petite, you can gravitate to overly tight or too small clothes to overcompensate for the lack of petite fitting garments in the shops. This isn't attractive or flattering. You should wear properly fitted garments that that are tailored (if necessary) to fit your frame.

This works for every shape petite. Skin tight tight clothes do not create curves or do they make you look smaller. They just look too tight and make you feel uncomfortable.

Rona Maynard on being petite, fashion, toronto and more..

I had the amazing opportunity of reconnecting with a lovely woman who I've admired since the days I was still just dreaming of the big city. For 10 years, Rona was the editor of Chatelaine magazine where she gained many loyal readers and fans (myself being one of the biggest). Reading those issues, month after month, I always found Rona so chic, classy and sophisticated while still sounding like someone I could easily talk to. I was proven right when I met Rona rather unexpectedly.

I had just moved to "the big city" and I was working at The Foot Shoppe. I sold her a red pair of Mephisto sandals. I was so excited to meet her but, being an 18 year old small-town girl working her first job in Toronto, I tried my best to be as professional as could. There I was meeting someone who I felt that I knew so well from reading Chatelaine. I corresponded with her a bit after her purchase and she was always so kind and generous to answer all my questions about the industry. Unfortunately, life got busy and we lost touch but we recently reconnected just as I started reading her book, My Mother's Daughter. And here she is with Petite Fashionista and she has lots of great tips to share.

What's your height and shoe size?

"I'm 5'3 1/2" and wear a size 9 shoe."

Where do your shop and which labels or designers fit you well?

"I like to mix basics from Banana Republic and Gap with early Lida Baday, Misura and treasures from assorted 75% off sales. Because I'm small, I can often wear the wonderful pieces that have been hanging around for months, just waiting for someone who fits them (like a Sonia Rykiel velvet evening dress I bought around 1990, and an Italian down coat in a gorgeous and unusual shade of mauve). These days I don't buy a lot of clothes because I
work at home in LuluLemon and my going-out wardrobe is both classic and indestructible. I do have a weakness for cashmere sweaters from Heaven Cashmere, a cubbyhole of a shop here in Toronto. If it doesn't feel good on
my body, I won't wear it, and these sweaters are simply a joy to wear. All my shoes are Mephisto or Taryn Rose because I have complaining feet."

Being at Chatelaine for 10 years and seeing your share of fashions and trends. Is there a garment or an outfit that you picked up that you're still in love with today?

Oh, there are so many! A chunky Lida Baday cashmere sweater that I wear all winter. A Marisa Minicucci coat in a wool/cashmere blend that I bought in 1995 and still looks new (it never followed fashion, and now it transcends fashion). A velvet Ralph Lauren scarf that I bought for a pittance at a sample sale (I collect scarves). And my favourite hat--black, Eric Javits, with a wide brim--that I wear all year and in the rain because it's water-resistant.

I know that you dress in clothes that are "you", because you seem so comfortable in your own skin and your style exudes and relaxed sense of confidence. How did you find your own sense of style?

Through trial and error, I discovered the importance of wearing what feels good. I used to own chiseled little suits, but they were so tight I couldn't eat anything more substantial than an asparagus spear in them. Now I stick to soft fabrics that move with my body, and classic shapes that don't dominate me (an important principle when you're small). I avoid busy prints
and anything that screams a particular moment in fashion (like the baby-doll look). The beauty of timeless cuts and solid colours is that you can accessorize them for an endless array of looks.

Are there pieces in fashion that women should "invest" in?

Never cut corners on a coat, or it won't stand up to everyday wear and tear. Besides, a beautiful coat can be thrown over a pair of jeans--instant style. Another essential: black pants that really fit and have no belt loops or pockets to interfere with the line of your clothes. And a well cut jacket, preferably in a light or bright colour.

What's your idea of the most perfect day in Toronto?

A long walk, the weekend papers, a movie and a dinner at home with my husband and a good bottle of wine.

Have you ever had to overcome an obstacle because of your height or had someone in business who didn't take you
seriously at first?

It's hard to be taken seriously when you're young enough to be someone's daughter. Clothes with gravitas are a huge help when you're starting out. Now that I'm meeting with people who are young enough to be my son or daughter, I like my clothes to be playful. I'm wearing less and less black. I only wear pearls in unlikely ways (e.g., with jeans and a sweater).

After reading that one of your favorite foods is an avocado and tomato sandwich I can't get enough of them either.
What are some other simple indulgences we can enjoy in our day?

Good bread--there's such an abundance of choices in Toronto. Good olive oil. Fresh seasonal fruit--berries all summer, clementines right now. Wine with dinner always, and thoughtfully chosen to complement the meal.

Since your new book is a tribute to your relationship with your mother, are there any ways she influenced your style?

My mother was a large woman, so she avoided the body-conscious pieces I collect. But she had a distinctive look: bold colours, chunky Mexican silver jewelry and big hats. Clothes were a pleasure to her, and an expression of her inner self. I feel the same way. And after she died, I started a hat collection.

My Mothers Daughter is a must read for every mother, daughter and everyone who enjoyed reading Chatelaine. It's tells the engaging honest story about her story and her life with a demanding and loving mother. This a great gift idea for the holidays.

I said to my father, "You don’t live here any more. This is Mother’s house, not yours. It’s time for you to go."
My father cursed me. He shook his fist. Then he left and never came back.

It's almost a month away till Christmas, which means family get together’s and most importantly New Year's Eve! Some may have already been looking for that perfect outfit, and some, like me, have not even thought about it. Here are some ideas that are figure flattering for our petite frames!

Our favorite petites, Reese Witherspoon, Rachel Bilson and Sarah Michelle Gellar, all looking fabulous.

Reese Witherspoon, 5'3, in this Jean Paul Gaultier cocktail dress. You can wear it as it is or add some jewelry to jazz it up.

Rachel Bilson, 5'1, looks amazing in this Chanel dress.

Sara Michelle Gellar, 5'3, sparkles in this Chole dress.

3 different flattering dresses. These are the type of dress us petites should look for! Simple yet classy!

Here are other ideas that would look stunning:

The most important thing to remember is to accentuate your curves and your frame, don't over accessorize, you want the dress to speak for itself!

SoYoung Mother

I recently got the chance to hear about a fabulous new diaper bag at a LWL (Ladies Who Launch) incubator session that I addend this past Wednesday. Now trust me when I say that this is no ordinary bag-it's what I'd like to call a "mommy and me" bag.

It's hard to tell from the picture but this bag comes with everything that a mother needs; such as a machine washable/dryable change mat, an adjustable strap so the bag hangs from the stroller, pocket for the cell phone and much more. Although I'm not a mom yet, I think that these bags as so fashionable and functional. Note: it's been tested that this bag WILL fit a laptop computer!

Here's an excerpt of Catherine's story on how this bag came to be.

I love bags.

Before having children, a good bag for me was all about the aesthetic. Love the look, love the feel, it would go great with this outfit!

Then I had a baby. At first I hung onto the last vestiges of my pre-mommy identity, refusing to succumb. Instead of using an official diaper bag, I just used my favorite totes. "What's the difference?" I thought.

These bags are not available yet but if you click on the title, you can sign up for the update on when you can purchase this bag. Also, while checking out the website don't forget to take a tour the bag to check out all the great features this bag has to offer.

What Body Type am I?

Hello Christa,

I just wanted to thank you for your great website. I wished I had stumbled across it sooner.
I'm a 31 year old mother of 2. I measure in at 5'1". I'm fit and slim, but I have what my mum would call, "a thick waist".
I have strong broad shoulders and a very small bust (barely an A cup), flat strong tummy, and a full bottom . Even with all the wonderful advice, I still have a problem deciding what body shape I am and what I can wear (or rather, what I can't wear!).
Any advice you can give will help me a long way.
Thank you!

Sue from Ottawa

Hi Sue!

You have a similar body to Shakira! You lucky lady! If you're not sure, let's check the similarities. Both of you are fit and slim- check, with strong thick tummies-check, broad shoulders- check, full bottom-check, and very small busts check! Shakira is also very petite at 4'11.

You both have strong athletic builds that are feminine and sexy. You just have to dress them to create curves in the right areas and to create balance. So, enough about Shakira, because I don't think belly tops and belly dancing accessories are going to work. So, let's get you dressed!

1. Wear Wrap Dresses. They will define your waist and accentuate your bust. Add a padded bra (for a little extra) and Voila! Hello Mama! You can wear this style of a dress very casually too. Wear a tank or cami underneath and wrap it a little looser. Wear tights underneath and you're ready to play on the floor, do laundry and go to the park. I actually do all of those activities in my wrap dresses.

2. Flowy Sleeves. Like the sleeves on the dress pictured. Look for that style in shirts (even wrap shirts) as well as dresses. This will soften your shoulders.

3. Define your Waist. Choose jackets, coats, shirts, sweaters that come in at the waist, even just, slightly. Avoid everything that is boxy and that goes straight down. You want to create an hourglass figure by always accentuating your "natural waist" right below your rib cage. You can always add a belt a "waist cincher" to create shape in garments that are lacking it. I belt my winter parka and it looks fabulous! Also, by defining your waist your legs will appear longer.

4. Wide Leg Pants. I'm guessing you didn't hop on the skinny jean trend and if this is true, thank you! It would not have complimented your figure. Because you have wide shoulders you have to balance them with your bottom half. That's why dresses will work wonderfully. But, we all need at least a few pairs of pants. Choose a wider leg style even a boot cut to balance the width of your shoulders. Most petites' will find wider leg jeans and pants more flattering, especially when paired with a great heel just peeking out.

If you do want to wear "skinny" jeans or leggings, pair them with tall boots that are looser on top.

A few more tips...

~Do accentuate your curves.
~Don't try to camouflage your strong core, define it with tailored clothes and belts.
~Do stand tall and have great posture.
~Do wear heels, even a slight heel. It will make your body look even better and it will perk up your bum.
~Don't wear black shoes with bare legs. They will make your legs look "stumpy".
~Don't have your hemline longer then 2 inches past your knee.
~Do wear V-necks and deep necklines.
~Don't wear "Hard" Clothes. Choose more feminine cuts with softer lines.
~Do wear longer earrings to elongate your neck. For more casual, a sparkly stud will work.
~Don't be afraid to show off your shoulders.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions. Also, if you're in Toronto or planning to be, I'd love to take you shopping.

Fashionably Late

I'm so excited for this new show, Fashionably Late with Stacy London. They say it's "A Girls' Night Out Worth Staying In For", sounds good to me! It promises to be a late night cocktail of celebrity style, real life test of runway trends and tips you can use in your everyday lives. It's also suppose to be; sassy, fun, inspirational and naughty.

While she's not petite, measuring in at 5'7. She has offered us petites' many great tips over the years.

OK magazine asked her:
Did you always want to have your show own like Fashionably Late?
Well, you know I feel like it's sort of the next step. I’ve been doing What Not to Wear for five years, Clinton's been doing it for 4. The rules of fashion styling after a certain point are pretty finite, so this is another way to really explore fashion in style, the larger picture of style, in a more kind of a girlfriend party kind of way. I just love the idea of that, I love playing hostess. And I love the idea that you can still get information and get how-to take-away stuff, but do it in this great sort of party setting that you don’t even need to leave your couch to enjoy, I mean there’s just nothing better. You can go watch my show on Friday night, go shopping on Saturday and have killer shoes that everybody is talking about on Monday. What could be better?

Premieres Friday, Nov 23 at 10e/p. on TLC

Buffy's Back

So, I was browsing through Maxim online. No, no, just kidding. Although, I'm sure that would get my BF excited. I went to go check out fellow PF, Sarah Michelle Gellar's (5'3") interview and photo shoot. She was recently named Maxim's woman of the year.

See, petites' are sexy too! Not, just cute.

From her Maxim interview:
Our readers have been asking us to get you on the cover for years. Why now?
Lots of things. I’m 30, and I’m promoting a bunch of different kinds of movies. I like to shake things up every once in a while. It’s good to leave people wanting more, but I don’t want to leave them waiting too long or they’ll lose interest. Besides, how could I not do a Maxim shoot when I have a movie coming out in which I play a porn star?

Exactly. In Southland Tales, you’re a porn star who is trying to get her own reality show. It’s quite a departure from Buffy.
I ran the gamut in the films I made this year. When you think about who should play a porn star, don’t I just pop into your mind? The character I play is sort of Arianna Huffington meets Jenna Jameson.

A Bra for Jenn

Hi Christa,

First off, I love your blog! I’m about 5’ 1.75” (or anywhere between 5’1 - 5’2”, lol) and have a petite frame. (I actually wish I was shorter…) I have the hardest time finding petite bras though, since I wear a 32C, and most petite bras only go up to a B cup. (I can get away with a B cup is there is absolutely no padding or molding whatsoever though.) I was wondering if you could direct me to a place that might have some? And when I mean petite, I mean I need the cups closer together, since almost all cups are too far apart. (My rib cage is very narrow.) And no padding! But I do need some support (underwire, maybe molded cups). I know this is a lot to ask, but do you think you can help me?

Thanks so much! And thanks for the wonderful blog! When you’re petite, shopping is a whole other ball game

Jenn C.

Hi Jenn,

This question is easy! Go to lemystere.com (Click the title). I know not all petite women are a 32 A like myself. Some petites are naturally busty and others had a little "help". So, here's a discovery that should work for you. This line is new from lingerie makers Le Mystere is No.9; a line of bras for women who are busty with small frames. Designed with the help of a plastic surgeon, their cups offer comfort & support. Sizes 30C-36E.

The sexy pic above is the bra that's available at Nordstroms online. I just checked and they have the 32 available!!
The description reads: "Beautiful lace bra is specifically designed for an augmented or naturally fuller bust, giving a supportive and uplifted shape." So I don't think there's any major padding.

P.S For other hard to find sizes for petites with small busts try Lula Lu.

Survey Says...

We surveyed 40 readers, here are the results for a few of the Q's:

Do you consider yourself petite and why?
Everyone considered themselves petite. Which was what I was hoping, since they're readers of Petite Fashionista.com.
I was happy to see a wide variety of sizes though. PF readers range from 80 lbs, size 00 to very busty and curvy petites.

The average height of PF readers is: 4'11!
No need to feel short ever again! I was really surprised by this height. There were a lot of 4'10 and 4'11's, a bunch of 5'2's and very few 5'3's and no 5'4's.

Where do you shop for clothes?
Here are the top 20 results
Banana Republic Petites Online
Nordstroms (and Nordstroms Rack)
Express
Winners
Gap Petites Online
H&M
Abercrombie (Regular & Kids)
JC Penney
Victorias Secret
Guess
Ann Taylor Petites Online
Reitmans
Forever 21
Anthroppologie
Thrift Stores (Salvation Army, Value Village, Cross Roads Trading Company)
Vero Moda
Femme Carriere
Aritzia
Vero Moda
Urban Outfitters
Ricki's

What obstacles do you find challenging when shopping?
Here's a selection of the answers:

1. "Everything, I'm a 34DD and I swear, finding a top that's flattering is plain ridiculous. Either they're cut too low or not low enough or showing too much here and there...I don't want to have my boobs hanging out, but it seems like all the tops I like are fit like that. And don't even get me started on jeans...I've just recently found a pair at Banana that fit just right...it only took me a few years!"

2."Shoes that don't fit! Tops that are too long or wide or the shoulders hang too far down or the sleeves are too long - I could go on and on! I always have to hem my pants."

3. "Even the 'short' petite pants are too long and I have to have them altered. The 'smalls' are too big. I rejoice when there's an extra small available!"

Do you have small feet?
The average shoe size is...

5.5

Trend Watch: Ice Skating Skirts

As pictured here on Ashley Olsen the "Ice Skating Skirt". It is more voluminous than the full skirt and has a hemline that hits above the knee. To quote Who What Wear Daily.com "In particular, this trend is perfect for our shorter readers , as it allows you to wear the full skirt style without looking dowdy.

Right now you’ll want to wear them with my favourite item and maybe yours too, the black opqaue tights. Add a "Waist Cincher" belt, this will highlight your waist and elongate your legs. An added bonus to this trend is that you'll get a lot of wear out of it, because the Spring 08 runways of Proenza Schouler and Donna Karan are showing similar skirts!

Ashley is either 5'1" or 5'3" different websites report different heights. I'm guessing closer to 5'1". Any thoughts?...

Clothes for Margie

"Hi Christa!

I was surfing the net, until I come across your website, it caught my attention.
I need to be made over, but of course I need a fashion guru like you to help.
I’m 25, 4’11 and working as an accounts assistant here in Dubai. I’d like to hear advice from you as to what style of clothes, shoes and even accessories will I buy. I’m the breadwinner in my family, so I’m looking for clothes that are not too expensive and that will suit my body frame.

Here’s my pic so that you have an idea of how I look like..
Hope to hear from you.

Thanks! God Bless
Margie"

Hi Margie, I was searching through shopbop.com for inspiration. This is often what I do, I start looking at what would be great to buy if we all had lots of cash, then I find a way my client can afford it. Either by finding a version of it in a less expensive line or by having it made. Margie, in your case, I think it would be cheaper for you to have your new work wardrobe made, seeing that you're in Dubai, where I believe there are many seamstresses and tailors available for less then we pay here in North America.

In any case here's some inspiration for you, whether you bring these ideas to the tailor or to the mall!

Here's what I recommend for your wardrobe:
1. Dresses: The majority of your new wardrobe should consist of professional dresses.
A wrap dress (pictured left)
A Panel Dress (pictured top above in the images above).
A Shift Dress (pictured far right in the images above)
These 3 dresses will be the most flattering, professional, and comfortable for your long work days.

2. A Fitted Blazer/Jacket: Like the jacket pictured in the bottom right hand corner, it should be perfectly fitted to your body. It should come in at your waist, be no longer then half way down your hips and it should have seaming to elongate your frame.

3. Feel Good Pants: I find dresses very flattering on small frames but, we all need at least one pair of professional dress pants. I recommend a wider leg with vertical stripes. Like the one pictured here. If you have them made ask for a shorter rise and for them to just show the top of your heels (not the whole shoe). A little longer then the pants pictured here, you want to make your legs look as long as possible.

Pair them with heels, preferable black for the office, also matching your shoe color to your pants to very elongating. Wear your new fitted jacket with these and add a pop of color with your choice of top. You could wear just a cami underneath, if you'll be leaving the jacket on all day.

4. A White Tailored Dress Shirt Find or have made a perfectly fitting white dress shirt to pair with your dress pants. This will be an easy professional style. Once you have a shirt that fits order or buy 2 more, in case of stains. You could even keep one handy at the office.

5. Accessories Let's start with shoes. You'll need 2 pairs; a dark pair to wear with your dark dress pants and a tan, or nude pair to wear with the dresses. It's about matching your shoe to your leg, for an elongating effect.
If you'll be wearing hosiery to work (which we usually have to here), don't wear an open toed shoe, if you aren't because of the heat, a slight open toe for work is ok.
Next, A Handbag that means Business. Look for something that is very structured, in a neutral color. Large enough to carry a few documents, but not too large or it will overwhelm your petite frame. The one pictured above is a great style to look for.
