Little Girl in Need of a BIG Bra

Hey PF's,

Can you help me help this reader?

I've done some research, but since I've personally never needed a big bra, I thought I'd ask for advice from those of you who have. I'll compile your advice with my research, then I think we'll be experts in bras for every shape petite.

Here's her question:

Hi Christa!

I've been watching this blog for a while and I love it! Finally I feel like I don't have to wear 4 inch heels every day to look cute and sexy.

Your post on the Little Bra Company sparks a question. Although most of my body is petite (I'm 5'2, 119 pounds) my chest is absolutely not. I'm a 32DD and I can never find bras anywhere. I know you're a fan of the Little Bra, but do you have any advice for the little girl in need of a Big Bra? :)

Dear little girl in need of a big bra!!!

I am also a little girl with a big chest just like you! I've discovered that the best bras available are not cheap ($125-$250) but they provide me with a superior fit, great comfort, and support. A proper bra also enhances my figure tremendously!!! Luckily the bras are so well-made that they last for a long time, too. So, consider them a "big" investment :-).

Firstly, there are two wonderful lingerie boutiques that I know of which stock plenty of options in this "odd" size category. They also provide excellent service in terms of helping you find the perfect fit.

1) Melmira (3319 Yonge Street
Toronto, ON M4N 2L9
(416) 488-3409)
-Huge selection. Great fitters. Free alterations. Sometimes I even need the back taken in so that it measures more like a 30".

2) Tryst: 465 Eglinton Ave West
Tel: (416) 484-6678

Here you'll also get super service and great fittings. They don't have as much product as Melmira but their styles are more stylish/cool/pretty and they stock less expensive brands.

Some of the brands that I recommend you consider are the following:

Freya
Fantasie
Chantelle
PrimaDonna (serious support)

I hope this info provides you with a good start! Good luck!

I also have this problem (5' 1.5", @ 112 pounds, 32C or 30D, no padding), but I live in the states and can't find this size...in a petite bra. Meaning, cups closer (REALLY close) together, straps shorter. I'm narrow, and regular bras, no matter the size, still don't fit right. But I'm from the states, east cost, so anything in Canada won't help me! I hope the person with the original question finds what she needs, and if anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it! I'll even take a place that does custom bras if you know of any in the US.

Hi Ladies, I'm also a little girl with a big chest 5"1 (32FF). There is a great website called Bare Necessities (based in the U.S.) and they carry a wide range of brands and sizes. My suggestions would be to check out a local bra boutique that carries bras from AA-G and get fitted in a few different makes as I find that sizes do vary from company to company and even from style to style within a brand. One you know your size and the brand that you feel most comfortable in you can go onto the website and place your order. I find the prices to be reasonable (even with the exchange) and periodically they do have sales for your favourite brands.
I find that as a busty petite that bras are always really made for us int he sense that the straps can be too long. If this is the same for you you might want to take your bras to an experienced seamstress and have her alter the straps for you.

I hope this helps.

Cheers.

I'm a 32DD (5'2'', 115 lbs) but most of my bras are 34D, since it's so hard to find bras with large cups and a small bandsize in most stores.

PROBLEMS:
1) Finding the right size (cup and band).
This problem is solved by shopping in stores that carries more sizes. Personally I choose to buy from webshops like Bravissimo and Figleaves because the lingerie boutiques where I live are too expensive.

Bravissimo only sell bras with D cups and larger, starting with 28 in bandsize I think. They only use models with larger cups witch makes it a lot easier to see what the bras really look like in larger cups. (If you compare a small cup bra with a large cup bra in the same model the bras doesn't look the same, since the larger bra needs to be more supportive.)

Figleaves on the other hand have most sizes (28A - 56FF), and they have many more bras to choose from. This is good but it also means that when I search for 32DD I get about 350 hits. It's takes time to sort trough all those bras. I recommend to search by brand since there are only a few brands that makes bras that are specifically made for larger cups. Freya and Fantasie are two examples. Figleaves do not use models with larger cups but they usually provide more pictures of each bra, included back view which is really good!

2) Finding the right model.
I find that both size and model are equally important. If the model is wrong the bra will still look awful even in the right size (I cannot wear push up's or plunge bras because my breasts are not firm enough. I need more coverage otherwise I spill over).

U-shaped underwires (common om larger cup bras) are a nuisance and I avoid them because they always poke up under my arms and it hurts.

3) Finding bras with close fitting cups.
When my breasts are forced to the sides they don't stay there, instead they migrate back and spill over. My only solution is to avoid models that accentuates this problem. Personally I find that T-shirt bras and other bras with formed cups are hard to wear because of this. Sadly it seems to be virtually impossible to find bras with close fitting cups :(

i also live in the US and always buy Chantelle 32d, fits perfect every single time! You can find them at saks and once you try it on to see your size, every other Chantelle fits the same exact way. I usually just look for good deals on ebay or shop online!

I've done a fair amount of research on small size bras for the Petite Lingerie page at petiteresource.com. I would recommend looking at figleaves.com and HerRoom.com. Both have a great selection in small band sizes with large cups. If you're interested in more petite lingerie, see http://petiteresource.com/petite-clothing/type/lingerie.

I have a pretty "easy" size-- 36C-- but since I am only 5'2, the cups are always too far apart and the straps always fall off. Which is the best brand(s) for a fairly large bust on a petite frame?

I love figleaves! I'm a 32c and my motto is "skinny girls have boobs too!"

If there's a ribbon between the cups it's pretty easy to take that in yourself.

Just wanted to say to Sarah...
If your cups are too far apart and the stras are always falling down, a 36C may not be your true size. You may need a smaller band and a larger cup. If you were measured professionally at a place like Victoria's Secret which doesn not carry a very wide range of sizes, they may have just suggested that you wear a size they actually have in stock.

I wear a 30D and I have been able to find a few brands at Nordstrom that fit well and aren't too pricey. Chantelle is great as some people have mentioned. I usually check every few months to see if they have any 30Ds in stock as they don't usually get in very many because it seems to be an odd size. The women there are very helpfull and keep an eye out for things they think will work for you. They will even call you and let you know if somthing comes in they think you will be interested in. I haven't ordered anything online because I am always afraid to buy somthing and have it not fit-it can be a hassle to return. Hope this helps a little.

I've had great luck with local lingerie boutiques (Bravissima, Secrets from your Sister) who always insist on fitting me (32DD, 5'1") even if I say they've done it already.

One trick with ordering through the mail is to find a bra that you like at a boutique, find the right fit and then order them cheaper from online companies such as bravissima (based in the UK). It means you may have to pay duties, but the bras are still 20-30 dollars less this way. Plus a friend of mine has never been charged duties for some strange reason. They have a great selection too!

I'm petite and curvy with a 34DD chest. I'm so glad others wrote in because its extremely difficult to find a well-made bra that supports my chest, isn't old-farty looking and is comfortable. I have such a hard time finding good bras.

Great comments ladies! I am petite and curvy 32DD as well and I agree that good bras are not easy to find!

I also recommend UK bras like Freya and Fantasie (and their swimwear) even though I am in California. I buy them online.

I also like Wacoal bras which they sell at Nordstrom/Macys. I think they only go down to size 32 but have lots of styles and colors and are pretty comfy.

These bras are not cheap but you can sometimes find deals on ebay or at discount shops like Nordstrom Rack.

I had the best luck with "The Bay" they still do custom bra fittings and I was able to purchase 4 different styles and colors for $165 including taxes, in BC.
The Bay has been offering this service for years, but most of us younger folks seem to think it's only a store for our grandmothers. Not true anymore. They not only do the bra fittings (I'm a 34DD) but they also have an incredible petites department. And still have wonderfully trained service staff. (No, I don't work for the Bay)
