Get Connected with Cynthia Good, CEO, Founding Editor and Co-Owner of PINK Magazine
Connecting the Dots is a monthly contest produced by TheSiteForEntrepreneurs.com (a division of Silver Lining Limited) where one lucky winner gets the opportunity to shadow an esteemed entrepreneur for a day. In celebration of the February launch of the contest, TheSiteForEntrepreneurs.com has partnered with HealthyGirl.ca and PetiteFashionista.com to spread the word to as many entrepreneurs as possible about this chance to win a trip to Atlanta, GA (airfare and hotel provided) to meet and shadow Cynthia Good, CEO, Founding Editor and Co-Owner of PINK Magazine. Cynthia Good says her biggest business challenge to date has been convincing all of the nay-sayers just how much clout women have. She has learned that the words “no” and “can’t” are not in her vocabulary.
In fact, she actually fines her employees for using the word “can’t”. So, with this in mind, if you’d like to participate in the contest and you’re a woman entrepreneur, write an article “in the style of PINK” (visit the PINK Magazine for ideas!) describing how you plan to phase out “no” and “can’t” from your own vocabulary.
They will be contacted by phone and travel arrangements will be made. The winner MUST be available for travel within the window of February 16th to 18th and must be legally allowed to travel to or within the US (a valid passport is required if traveling from Canada). TheSiteforEntrepreneurs.com will provide the winner with one (1) round-trip ticket from their city of residence to Atlanta, GA as well as one (1) night of hotel accommodations. It is the responsibility of the winner to provide their own travel insurance and spending money.
The day itself will be videotaped and the footage will be edited into a 3-5 minute video segment that will be showcased on TheSiteForEntrepreneurs.com. Remember, it is possible to live your life without “no” and “can’t”... so definitely embrace this opportunity.

 Hi PF's!
L'Oreal recently sent me their new mascara Double Extend Beauty Tubes and it's my new favorite! This product has the same effect for me as my falsies and its much easier to apply. I've tried others that were a similar concept, but found them to be really flaky. This one works wonders and comes off easily with warm water.
Have you tried this yet?
If so, L'Oreal wants to know what you think!
Leave a comment to this post.
A reader sent me this MUST read post! Here are some of the highlights:We are lovable!Shorter people are perceived as non-threatening, so people are nicer to us - because nobody wants to be mean to a midget! We subconsciously remind them of children, so people are more willing to help (the downside of this can be patronizing - but we’ll get to that later). In addition, adult bullies prefer to bully adults, so we encounter fewer meanies along the way. We are a child’s best friendChildren immediately see a potential friend in shorter people, and open up more easily. If you work with kids, being tiny can be a big benefit! We can alter clothes like whoa! It’s easier to make small out of a large. So next time you see a dress on sale that’s 2 sizes too big, use the money you save to get it tailored - or fix it yourself, if you’re good enough. We are instant girlfriend materialTall women often have problems finding a suitably-sized guy, but a teensy-weensy girl won’t. Guys are helpless against our shorty charms because it makes them feel more protective. They cherish their petite lady friends forever!

I caught up with edgy streetwear designer with a green heart - Kat from Kali Clothing!
Cat tell the readers why using organic cotton is important to you when designing and why you think it's important to be conscious of the fabrics we wear:Using organic cotton is important to me because I wanted to figure out how to reduce my personal carbon footprint especially when building a clothing line. I realized that to live more sustainably we shouldn’t stop at being conscious of what we eat- we should also be conscious of what we wear. Conventional cotton farming takes a huge toll on our planet. Just to make a single t-shirt, a third of a pound of pesticides and other chemicals are used. We all wear t-shirts, now imagine the effect of these toxins as it absorbs in our bodies! I think it’s important to be conscious of the fabrics we wear living in such a disposable culture that capitalizes on disposable fashion trends which have severe social and environmental impacts. Clothes we buy are so cheap and so cheaply made that even if they lasted more than a season, we wouldn’t care to wear them anyways. I believe it’s possible to change this! Fabrics used in the current eco-fashion trend are produced from sustainable resources such as organic cotton, bamboo, and hemp. These clothes are grown without the use of toxic chemical pesticides, fertilizers or genetic engineering, which means that thousands of pounds of chemicals are saved from contaminating the earth. These fabrics not only reduce pollution and our carbon footprint, but are all non-toxic, biodegradable and renewable! You're a petite woman yourself, ok, you're taller then me at 5'5, but how do your t's fit the petite woman? All of our t-shirts are fitted so that they create a comfortable and sexy silhouette for petite women. They feature short fitted sleeves, a tapered torso with length that hits just at the waist. Our tank tops are fitted at top and have a slight a-line in the torso that looks great for petite women paired with a crop blazer and leggings or skinnies! As a petite woman, why settle for a t-shirt that looks like it belongs to your boyfriend?
What's your favourite design, in your line or a custom piece that you did?
One of my favourite designs was for a couple custom pieces I made from reconstructing men’s formal wear. I took apart a men’s navy blazer and vest, fitted them for a more defined silhouette, then silk-screened a gold crown with Swarovski crystals on the front right chest and printed in gold the Kali Clothing crest design on the back. The pieces came out looking fabulous and had a sleek feminine feel.
Are there any celebs who you are hoping that will wear your designs in 2009?In 2008, it was a definite thrill having Kat Von D wear the “Anatomy of a Heart” tank top for a few episodes in L.A Ink! This year I’d love to see the support of great, forward thinking women doing fantastic things for sustainable fashion like Stella McCartney and Katharine Hamnett wear a Kali original! What can we expect to see from you and your line this year? The new Spring/Summer ’09 line I’m currently working on is going to be my first collection where I’ve designed all patterns as well as the designs I silkscreen on them. I will be working with reclaimed cotton fabric clippings and polyester made from recycled plastic bottles to create a truly sustainable fabric from things that would otherwise be sitting atop a land fill. There will be basic pieces in the collection as well as a few classic pieces that can take you from day to night. Stay tuned! www.kaliclothing.ca WIN A KALI CLOTHING ORIGINAL! Simply "Share" this post with your friends on Facebook or MySpace (button just below) and then leave a comment in this post with the link. Winner will be contacted by Friday!

Wear a hat throughout the Winter! The cold air can damage and break your hair.

So many girls want to be models, and many of them are short. Many of them will not be discovered or be welcome to a fashion agency open call. So she must carry on, and even market herself, grab her bootstraps and even get her own modeling work. Yet she has to be careful and weary of the scams and the modeling mistakes. Here is insight into how a model can prepare when she is managing herself, and how to know if a modeling opportunity is really one, or a big No.
I do think it is important for a girl who is interested in modeling to understand how to market her self properly and the importance of not being too desperate to call her self a model that she makes mistakes.
To get an agency when you are not a Goliath you do need experience, to get that experience you have to pick your opportunities carefully.

Do not wash hair more then 2 times per week. This will avoid over drying it and keep color longer. Use a powder to absorb oil in between washes like this one.

You may have heard these all before and while there are always exceptions to fashion rules - these are tried and true petite tips!1. Horizontal lines cut off the figure and make us appear wider and shorter than we are. 2. Vertical lines such as; v-necklines, open jackets and pants create an elongated silhouette.
3. The same color from head to toe will create a continuous, lengthwise flow. Dresses are an easy way to achieve this effect.
5. Find an amazing pair of nude colored shoes for longer looking legs (wear them with bare legs).
6. Highlight your natural waist, by belting it or choosing a high waisted skirt.
7. Take note for Eva here and show off your legs! Keep your hemlines above the knee.
You might think modeling is all about height but it isn't. Parts modeling is perfect for a shorter girl. Parts modeling, also called "body parts modeling", is modeling your hands, legs, feet, stomach, etc, for ad campaigns and product ads, think nail polish ads or skincare, or jewerly ads. Think of shoes. Parts models can make up to $1000 or more a day just to model their leg, like I do. Enjoy this post on my blog about Parts modeling. This type of modeling is a good entrance for a shorter girl, because you get experience, great pay, and it is a nice way to get some magazine tearsheets and work with some top brands. Did you know my first modeling job through a modeling agency was shoe modeling? I got the job because I was a size 6 shoe, and I fit the sample size like Cinderella. As a parts model you won't be judged for being too short since many parts models are short. We make the product look big! It means a paycheck for us and opportunities in the modeling business that lead to more. Isobella's hands will be seen in the March and April issues of Bon Appetit magazine US hand modeling.

 Hi PF's!
I spent Saturday with my friends at Naturally Petite. I had a blast, tried on clothes and discovered a few things that I'm excited to share.
I've never tried on a pair of skinny jeans, I'm guilty for writing something off as "not for me" without trying them on. To my surprise, they made my legs look longer and leaner.
Especially when paired with pieces in the same tone and matching pumps!
Okay ladies... now, if you only take one piece of advice from Petite Fashionista ever, take this:
Plie - it's a line of body shapers from Brazil. They are thin, breathable and so much more practical then Spanx (sorry Spanx). Again this is a product that I didn't think I needed or wanted. But, let me tell you - it transformed my body!
For all of you who want to give your bum a little lift, then this is for you (no matter how thin you are!)
If you only buy one thing this season, let it be a body shaper from Plie. It will make all your clothes look better!
Stay tuned for before and after pictures of what it did for my bum....

I think Ugly Betty should be watched by all women, both young and old.
Betty is such a great role model and the show (as over the top as it is) teaches life lessons and reminds as to stay true to our values. Here's her advice on confidence:
"A little pep talk is a great way to start out each day. You never know what challenges you'll face or what you'll run into! And don't forget to keep smiling, no matter what life throws at you"
Also, I'm brining back the weekly feature to come called "Petite Professional" where I interview professional petite women I admire.
FYI: Actress America Ferrera is 5'1

I just met Jas, who's the creator of Savillian Clothing which offers custom tailored clothing for women and men, she told me all about her company!
I thought it could be a great option for my petite fashionista readers and friends!
There are many characteristics to the shirts, the main one being that the shirts are fitted specific to your measurements. The fabric is 2 ply cotton and our current selection are mainly pinks, blues and whites.
Additionally, the shirts can be further customized in terms of the collars, cuffs styles and length.
Another thing that they can do is add hidden buttons to avoid any peekaboos.
The price of the shirt is $125 plus tax, (a discount is given for multiple shirt purchases).
Hi Christa!
Hope the New Year is treating you well! We are running a Free Shipping Promo and wanted to let the readers know! Thanks,
 Good morning, Petite Fashionistas!
Please note that I do have an online shop opening soon and I will be giving a discount to anyone that signs up on my E-mail List!

Hi Christa,
Hope that all is well with you :-) I am currently on a hunt for dress pants. It's been quite a challenge. I am a 'dress' type of girl and I don't really like shopping for pants. I find that they fit my waistline but when it comes to the bum and thighs, I am swimming in them!
Could you please suggest a store in Toronto that might carry my size? I am looking for some lift in the bum area. I am 5 ft 2 inches in height, 96 lbs with a 25 inch waistline.
Thanks for your time!
Oliva
Hi Oliva!
This is Monica from Naturally Petite I searched the store for you and here's what I found that might work:
We carry our own private brand of dress pants in a variety of colours starting at size 2 and ending at size 18. We offer free alterations, since even petite sizing needs to be altered once in a while. They are a great fitting pant that hug your hips and falls straight and loosely down the leg (which helps to elongate). They are a mid height pant with quite a bit of lycra in them to achieve a true fitting and comfortable pant. They also have a seamless pocket in the front and no pockets in the back (a must on petite dress pants) and have matching tailored suit jackets to match!
So don't fear we have something for you!
We also have a *NO TAX EVENT* going on for all of January so come by the store for a fitting or call us to schedule an appointment! Thank You Monica Martinez “For women, by women, about women”

It is definitely time for a treat!
Beautiful Images has just launched a fantastic NEW promo called Treat Yourself to a Day of Glamour.
It includes a professional make-up application, an hour long photo shoot and some really great prints that you can share with friends and family or that special someone for Valentine’s Day.
We all get caught up in our everyday life and this is a great chance to take some time out for you.
Space is Limited so book early to avoid disappointment!
I love the title of the story that recently appeared in the paper about my favorite petite boutique Naturally Petite! Sisters turn Small Stature into Big Dream.
I also love 'Short sisters turn their problems into Naturally Petite'.Just as we've always said at Petite Fashionista - there's a need for contemporary petite fashion!
Sisters; Bonita, Sharon and Cheryl-Anne are the founders of Naturally Petite in Richmond Hill and their opening has proven that petites will travel and seek out places to shop that cater to them.
Similar to when someone logs on to Petite Fashionista they are pre qulaified. You may have searched on Google or were recomended by a friend.
Same goes for the customers who go into Naturally Petite. They are seeking clothing for fashionable clothing for petites. And Naturally Petite delivers!
If Petite Fashionista were a store it would be exactly what Naturally Petite is!
The sister trio have something they call 'sister synergy' and good thing for us that they get along and bring their dream to life!
This picture is amazing! The sisters cut the ribbon as petite reporter, Julia Suppa from Rogers TV is reporting the fabulous event!
Have you been to Naturally Petite yet? What are you waiting for?
My long distance petite friends have no fear, they are working on their e-shop which will be opening in the coming months!

 I am!
And so is my friend Yvonne, who's even planning an event around it - you know I'll be there reporting!
The movie features petite actress Isla Fisher 5'3.
When watching the movie next month be sure to take note of the fashion - which promises to be amazing and will leave us all wanting to go shopping!
Because she's petite it will be great for us to see how the stylist puts here together. I'll be taking notes for sure!
The biggest mistake that a shorter girl who wants to be a model makes, is thinking about fashion too much. The way to book modeling work as a shorter girl is to have the mindset that modeling is more tha fashion. Here is a post from my modeling blog based on the difference between fashion modeling and commercial print and the misconceptions a girl might run into about the word model.
Petite Clothing Boutique in Toronto offers great selection of wrap tops.
This week’s feature at Naturally Petite is our famous and very popular wrap tops by XS Clothing!! These tops were designed to flatter the more curvaceous body and add a more textured layered look for an athletic or rectangular shaped body too! These three quarter sleeved wraps look great with a pair of premium jeans or with a higher waisted dress pant or slim skirt. They come in a variety of sizes and colours such as plum, winter white, grey and black! The perfect thing to grab when you’re indecisive about a dress code because you can dress them up or wear them casually! A fitted or tailored top that hugs your hips and has a deep V neck adds emphasis to your chest and gives your petite torso a longer look.
A wide low neckline. These sorts of neckline will stop the chest from looking so bulky and will draw attention to your face and give you an elongated neck.
Use a wrap cardigan or jacket it’ll give you a more slim line silhouette and gives the break in the neckline as mentioned above.
Tips for making the most of your petite frame:- Sky scraper high heels - Wearing a heel at over 2 inches will lengthen your body and not just your leg, they will make you stand taller making your torso look longer too!
- Low-rise Trousers or Jeans- Will make your torso look longer, if you have a petite upper body.
- Heel Covering Hems - For the illusion of longer legs make sure your hem comes over your shoes and hangs about an inch above the floor.
- Vertical Stripes - Want to look taller then get a petite outfit that incorporates vertical lines. We aren’t talking about the kind on a football… but subtle vertical lines work very well.
See you soon!

Eva Longoria 5'2 is the best dressed petite celebrity so far as I watch the Golden Globes right now!
The cut is so flattering and the color is vibrant and eye catching.
The scalloped bust detail is perfect for her small bust that DOES not look small in this dress!
Take note members of the A team, this sweetheart cut adds volume to our bust!
The actress adorned herself with floral diamond buds, a shimmery silver clutch, and bangles.
Eva you look RED HOT!
A+

Here are 3 of the 7 Resolutions that she posted... 1. Increase productivity of my wardrobe. I will find creative ways to wear everything in my wardrobe. I will not let items sit unused for months at a time. If I cannot find a way to wear something, I will: (Read #2) 2. Donate unused clothes to charities. My sister-in-law recently brought to my naive attention that many of the used clothing bins found in parking lots are not necessarily placed there by charities. Some are owned by organizations that re-sell the clothes to vintage shops for profit. I will donate continue to donate my casual clothes to the Salvation Army, but will direct my more professional items to Beauty Night, a (Canadian) non-profit organization that helps disadvantaged women improve their self-image and increase their self-esteem. Another great organization with chapters around North America is Dress for Success, an organization that provides women with career counselling and interview clothes to help them get back on their feet. 3. Leverage my accessories. The other day, my husband pointed out to me that I have 14 scarves in the front closet alone. In 2009, I will make the most of my accessories by working them into my outfits on a daily basis!

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?[...] Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.[...] It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.” —Marianne Williamson
Thanks to Coco & Lowe for sharing this on their blog.

Jennifer Ettinger 5'4 (PF's fitness expert) brought this unique product to my attention and then I found out Paula Abdul 5'0 also uses that product. It's called The Ultimate Applicator it promises to tone, firm, tighten, and diminish the appearance of cellulite.
You can target any part of your body and it produces both immediate and progressive results.

This is definitely worth checking out! While Jennifer says it doesn't replace a health diet and exercise. It's perfect to help with those extra inches and cellulite. For me I would give this a go right before the beach.

I just learned from What Women Want that Canada's very own Keshia Chante tapped to play Aaliyah in Biopic!
Keshia Chante 5'2 helped Petite Fashionista and Hayden Panettiere raise money for the Whaleman foundation last June.
It's great casting that's for sure! The only major difference is that there is a 5" height difference between the two beauties.

As a financial coach, I often find that people are so overwhelmed by everyday life that they can’t seem to find basic things they need…you know the closet overflowing, the drawers crammed with junk, the piles of paper to be filed. Sound familiar? But when it comes down to finances, it is imperative that you are able to put your hands on documents to get a grip on where things really stand. When we made a major move a few years ago, I decided it was time to unload in a huge way. But the undertaking was so overwhelming that I wasn’t sure where to start. So, I just began at one corner of each room and every day I would do just one drawer, one cabinet, one part of a closet, as I literally made my way around the house. It took me many months, but when it was done, I felt free from all that stuff that had been filling up not only my space, but my time and energy as well. As you unload those unnecessary things in life think about all the money you have spent on things that you may not have really needed. This can help you gain perspective when you feel the urge to splurge next time. Next, have a garage sale or sell some things on eBay with all that you uncover. Or give to charity or post on www.Freecycle.org and let those items find a happy new home. Take some time to clear the clutter and what I call, “dejunkify” your life. Then make a workable plan for your finances and your future! Lisa C. Decker, CDFA

Petite Models can find modeling opportunities within print work and parts modeling (you know' hands, legs, feet, etc) is also an area of modeling that a shorter girl can find modeling work, but to start modeling a girl should be aware of the photos she needs, and the photos an agency wants to see.
If you do not have marketable photos, it could be the reason you do not have a modeling agency calling you. It is best to ask yourself "What does the agent want to see?" when it comes to creating your modeling compcard and portfolio photos. Too many girls on the web are trying to hard be models on their Myspace page, or showing off photos, (the wrong photos) in the wrong places. To be a model, work with top brands, and get ahead as a short girl, you do need a few basic shots, and I hope this post on my blog helps! - Isobella Jade

As a fashionista I have developed an eye for style over the years! As much as my style in refined I know (from much perusing of fashion magazines) that sometimes designer price tags can be downright scary!
While a splurge once in a while on that can't-live-without-it fabulous item is invigorating. I believe that the real fun of fashion is by mixing high & low items to create killer outfits that make you look like a million bucks and saves your credit card!
Naturally Petite showcases hot designer-styles along with reasonably priced pieces (for $100 or, in most cases, for much less)...along with must-splurge basics that should be added to any wardrobe. Since all year we focus on getting that look for less, Naturally Petite is offering a NO TAX EVENT for all of January! And it is most definitely the perfect time to do so since we carry a variety of lines from outerwear, casual, dressy and even yoga wear for the “I want to get fit this year” resolution on every girls list! Come visit us and tell your friends about Naturally Petite at 1285 Elgin Mills Rd. East (between Leslie and Bayview) in Richmond Hill.
There is a gift with every purchase! If you are interested in a Private Fitting Session for you and your friends, please call or e-mail us to book your appointment.
See you soon!

I took a chance this year and made a statement. Although, I was looking forward in ringing in the New Year at home with my family, my husband decided he wanted to go out. So we rang the New Year with our fabulous friends here in Vancouver at Harboursides Renaissance Hotel. I wore a little black dress from H&M for $39, yeah best deal ever, Hue tights in Gloss, and snake skin shoes from Nine West. Unsure, if my outfit would work, I took a chance. I'm so glad I went with my the tights because I stood out and received compliments on my daring choice of attire!
My Advice: - Always go with your first instincts, in life, shopping and outfits.
- Always add colour to your outfit, even as simple as a colored necklace or earrings.
Happy New Year and all the best to you all in 2009!!
1 of 10 Wear unbroken lines of color on your body. Match a top and a bottom in the same color or pattern, then add a layering piece such as a top or blouse in a contrasting color or pattern.
This example is contemporary and fresh and doesn't look like she's "following the rules!"
