Good news for professional and working petites... Banana Republic has started making size petite XXS!
If you're tiny like me, then the size petite XS at Banana Republic can still be a bit too big. Well, check out the new size XXS! This size was introduced at the end of last year, and has popped up on most top, blouse, and sweater options online, but unfortunately not in stores yet.
This may mean gals in Canada need to wait for e-commerce to pop up on the Canadian site, or have a friend or family member in the US receive packages. See the petite XXS offerings from the US site here:
We took winner Patty Genova 4'11 on a shopping spree at Devonshire Mall. Patty has a curvy petite size figure. The way she was dressing was hiding her curves, making her look shorter and heavier. We fixed that by choosing figure flattering clothes and the perfect hair style!
Read the story online for the full details, including my tips on dressing your petite frame - no matter what your size or shape!
Special thanks to: Cheryl MacLellan (my mom and shopping assistant), Karen Hall (fashion journalist extraordinaire), The Golden Razor for the hair and makeup they provided for Patty, Devonshire Mall and the staff of The Bay!
As always Kylie steals the show, making every inch of her 5' frame count!
She is one of my style icons and she continues to inspire my wardrobe everyday.
I'm off to the seamstresses to have the second dress made! I'm in love!
Kylie made several outfit changes throughout the evening which included (from left to right) an ivory, long draped jersey dress, by Gaultier Paris, with Jimmy Choo shoes, a purple and pink silk draped dress with crystal straps by Balmain; full length bead.
The product is absorbed quickly and results can be seen in as little as 45 minutes.
You may, however, leave the wrap on as long as you like - or even overnight. The wrap contains herbs that get through the pores on your skin and penetrates four layers to the fat layer, where we store toxins.
The herbs and lipase enzymes then metabolize, breaking up into little pieces the fat and toxins, which are then excreted. This detoxifies at the cellular level, which is why drinking water is so important.
These wraps were originally formulated to detoxify, but the wonderful side effect of losing fat and inches was discovered.
THE ULTIMATE APPLICATOR is formulated without mineral oil, lanolin, propylene glycol, isopropyl alcohol, artificial colorants, synthetic fragrances, or animal by-products. It has a safe preservative system without formaldehyde releasers and very, very low paraben concentration, made with natural herbs and approved in Japan , Europe, Canada and the United States .
I have personally used the product and have lost inches off my thighs!
I just read this in the Sweet Petites newsletter - so amazing!
from the newsletter:
Ever wonder what it takes to live an active life, for a long time? We just met a wonderful new customer, Bertha, who is 97 years young. She is fit and trim, walks every day for over an hour, lifts weights and recently began Tai Chi. She was always active through high school-even "lettering" in some sports. and participated in the Jack Lalanne tv workouts.
We are making some custom patterns for her to ensure a proper fit for her body. She told me she has been searching years to find clothes that fit her petite frame and she was very excited to hear about Sweet Petites. I can only hope that I'm that active and dedicated when I reach 97!

Is what this 50 something women said, as I handed her a pair of black pants. (Yes, I work in a btq part time; a girl needs to keep beautiful clothes in her closet)
When did women become so depended on others to dress, with every color under the rainbow, frills and ruffles to the neck, I’m guessing with the blur of all that is beautiful, & the bargain bling of ’09,it can be very confusing…
But black with what????
My addictions are finding freedom in layers of knits, prints, ruffles, cashmere and cropped skinny pants (love!).
And if that doesn’t work ladies, take two risks and go see your fave sales associate in the morning. ~ KV
Whether you'll be spending tomorrow with your sweetheart or yourself be sure to fill your day with lots of love!
Because remember... we may want lots and lots of things, but all we really need is love.
Show love to everyone tomorrow - especially yourself!
What am I doing tomorrow? My bf is having a cleaner come over and he's taking me shopping! It's going to be the best Vday ever, because that's what I told him I wanted!

Seems like every celebrity is trying to become versatile, from actor to singer, or actor to desginer. In this case, petite actress turned singer now turned fashion desginer, Hilary Duff, 5'2, teams up with DKNY Jeans to launch her very own creations, Femme. The collection will include jeans, sweaters, tees, dresses and much more.
“The collection mixes rocker chic with a soft touch, featuring innovative ideas, unexpected details and multiple functions. Each piece is unique; each look makes a statement.” Kevin Monogue, president of DKNY Jeans, praised Duff's feminine yet edgy style while she embraces her individuality as she experiments with the current trends. The inspiration behind her line is her own life.
Here is what we should expect with the Femme:
“A key theme is versatility: sweater tunics with removable cowl scarves, tees with detachable and printed necklaces, charmeuse cozies that layer like scarves, skinny jeans with adjustable belt loops for thin or wide belts. Black denim is the foundation, with vinyl leggings, tissue weight tees and strappy dresses rounding out the Fall assortment.” Just the idea of detachable items excites me...adjustable belt loops...and removable cowl scarves...now that's versatility!!! Femme is set to debut in department stores and specialty stores in August 2009, just in time for my favority season, Fall!!!The only thing that makes me think is...will this line be petite friendly??
**Other petite turned designer, Rachel Bilson, 5'4, who also teamed up with DKNY last year, Edie Rose. Sarah Jessica Parker, 5'4, Bitten, exclusively available at Steve and Barry.**
I admit, I’ve never really been the “bold” type…I’m more of the “comfortable” type, when it comes to clothing and fashion. But with Animal Print all the rage this coming season (check out http://www.itsybitsybrabar.com/ for some cute animal robes and bras), I’m thinking of putting my inhibitions aside and trying to sport some of that Animal instinct attire.
I’m not sure why I’ve never really embraced animal print—it’s fun and daring—something any “small pocket of sexiness” would surely find empowering, right? I think it’s because as the trend becomes more popular, all of a sudden, I’m asking myself, “Seriously, what animal has a real print that’s lime-green, or neon-blue?” And then it just seems ridiculous.
Or maybe it’s ME?? Never one to really stand out (or WANT to stand out), maybe a new year calls for new risks? Truly, I feel like if I wore something bold and “tigress-like,” I would just end up looking like some food-deprived street cat because I am naturally really skinny. Instead of looking trendy, is it possible that I--a skinny, 5’1”, 90-something pounder, could ruin this hot new sensation? Okay, perhaps I’m being too dramatic, but how do you petites rock animal print in public?
In private, it’s another matter entirely…If you’re wearing an animal robe, or leopard-print bra, there’s a certain thrill of knowing you’re a bit of a bad girl to yourself. In public, the world is there to judge! What are some simple combinations an “animal-print virgin” like me can start off with, that won’t make me feel like I’m over doing it? (Anybody else have this problem?)
As a curvy petite, it's always hard for me to find clothes that really fit. The pants are always too long and the dresses never fit around my hips; sounds familiar? Alteration costs money – unless you do it yourself! So for the New Year, I decided to take matters into my own hands and sign up for a beginner sewing class at Sew Be It.
In a quaint and comfortable studio, a small group of us were introduced to everything from hand stitching to mastering the sewing machine on the first day. By the end of the 5-week intensive class, you will learn how to hem pants, create design patterns and construct a pant/skirt from scratch. Don’t know how to take measurements? No fret; the class teaches you step-by-step of how to take proper measurements while understanding differences in patterns and fabric selections. Dylis Tong, owner of Sew Be It, believes in applied teaching where students can only learn sewing through hands on experience. She is not only fashionable conscious, but she’s also environmentally conscious. All used materials in the studio are used to create dog and cat beds for The Toronto Humane Society. After the course, you’ll be able to sew and serge you way into a beautiful dress pant, comfortable pyjama or that gorgeous a-line skirt you’ve been eyeing on!
They’re having classes all year round, so visit www.sewbeitstudio.com for more information or call 416-481-7784.
Having recently launched www.ItsyBitsyBraBar.com, offering undergarments solely for XS and S women, many of the images provided to me by vendors featured women who were “average.” Companies do this because it’s just easier to photograph and average-sized model rather than someone super-small or on the plus-side.
However, as an online shopper myself, one of my qualms with buying underwear online is that the product would not fit me as well as shown on the model. I wanted to put the “image-theory” to the test with my own website.
An old friend of mine (who happens to be 5’0”, an A-cup, and weighs around 95 pounds) was really excited about the site, and jokingly offered herself up for me to take some pictures that reflect the items on an actual petite woman.
I took her up on the offer in a heartbeat. I knew that the pictures weren’t going to be perfect, or airbrushed, or in any fantastic lighting or tremendously artistic in any way. In fact, they would probably be really amateurish (so, “Should I even take the risk of putting them on the site?” I asked myself.) BUT, I hoped that showing how the products actually look on a petite figure would make the shopping experience more informative and honest with my clients.
This is where YOU come in…what do you think? On my site, check out some of the photos from the following products: Eberjey Lovestruck Chemise, Ongossamer Chemise in Aqual or Black, Fleur't Ruffle Silk Babydoll, Stretch Polka Dot Charmeuse and Lace Chemise, JLO Butterfly Kisses Chemise with matching Thong.
She modeled a few more pieces as well, that you’ll notice if you browse around the site. If there’s a positive difference in the shopping experience, she is willing to also be photographed in some of the bras and other items, which hopefully will make bra-shopping easier for you. (Thanks Monica, and thanks for lending us your apartment Isha!)
Commercial print modeling is the largest sector of the modeling world. Models range from babies, to grandparents, and these models are not judged on height and weight.
Don't forget, the word model means being in a commercial for a product or service, not just on a runway. Models of all types are needed in many ad campaigns and product ads from haircare, to banks, to basically anything you see advertised in TV or in a magazine that is not a fashion magazine.
Commercial print modeling is sort of like acting in a photo, and it invovles real life situations involving products, so a computer ad would involve a model typing on the computer. A haircare hair for Conair might involve the model using or holding a new hair dryer. A nail care ad, might show a model painting her toe nails, a commercial for a dish soap might show a mother-like model washing dishing, or a car commercial might show a man driving through the hills or in a friendly neighborhood. Commercial print modeling is where a shorter model should look for modeling work.
This post is a list of commercial print modeling agencies in NYC and they can inspire you no matter where you live on the types of agencies a shorter girl should be approaching.
Myself and my team are currently working on initiatives that we can do to bring more attention and to raise money for this amazing charity and campaign.
In the mean time see how you can get involved and share the videos with your friends!
I have to warn you though... the granny items are mixed with the contemporary ones. So, don't get thrown off if you see something that's not your style!
For some of us, it's the best of times. For others, the worst of times. Yes, you know what I'm talking about--VALENTINE'S DAY.
Being single, I cringe at the sight of RED everywhere you go!!! However, this year, I told myself, I'm just not going to care or stress it. I'm going to thrown on a nice outfit, some pretty accessories, and have a big bash with my friends, dance, drink, and EMBRACE the single life. I don't have to check in with anyone, fight for the toilet seat to be down, or worry about someone else's feelings!
However, as a new business owner, I now have a better understanding of the holiday season. Women (and Men) are excited to have a reminder, that as busy as life may be and no matter how much they get caught up in life, LOVE is a beautiful thing!!
So, to celebrate the season of love, www.ItsyBitsyBraBar.com just got in a batch of sexy lingerie..varying in color and style. The price range is also great if you are looking for more affordable to more high-end. I love the brand new Fleur'T babydolls that I just received from England because they are pure silk.
If you've got your lingerie already, check out the accessories to add a touch of flair to your night.
Most importantly though...regardless of if you have a Valentine or not, you are still one special Itsy Bitsy chick!
Eva Longoria Parker, 5'2, one of our favorite petites, always looking her best and showing off her peite frame.
Star of 'Confessions of a Shopaholic', Isla Fisher, 5'3, graces 2 covers this month, Instyle UK and Allure US. 2 covers 2 different looks, I can't wait for the movie to see what she wears.
Yes, in love…heart racing, couldn’t wipe the smile off my face kind of love...
With a pair of lace 4 inch heeled peep toed size 6 D & G pumps @ Holt Renfrew’s now or never sale.
I know this may sound a tad sad to those of you in real relationships, But as a single girl shoes make me very very happy, only until Mr. Wonderful or even Mr. Maybe comes along, who am I kidding? J’adore my shoes, it’s my thing!!
Trying to be very 2009 and frugal, I handed back the shoes that were on sale for $269, yes, I know a steal, but this is after all 2009 and slipped mes tres petits pieds into a sensible pair of Michael Kors black patent pumps with the cutest bows on the toes. And get this, on sale for $49.
With bag in hand and the cell number of the very cute salesman (I’m pretty sure it was only to appelez if I wanted the D&G shoes to be put on hold).
I left Holt’s a very happy single girl with new shoes and a few extra dollars in pocket.
