Petite on the Street

When I spotted today’s petite on the street at a birthday party I cursed myself for forgetting my camera and decided her vintage look was too good to pass up. So, I tracked her down at The Drake where she runs the Make Sale Series on Thursdays which features the work of local designers.

Who She Is

At 5’3 Sarah Magwood is the embodiment of how to make vintage and vintage inspired looks work for petite individuals. After speaking with her I was not surprised to learn that Sarah is a milliner and vintage retailer for her own Cozette vintage and designs

Wearing Vintage

As a retailer and consumer Sarah knows vintage and she says it’s perfect for petites. Considering women in the past had generally smaller frames, petite women are prime candidates to wear vintage clothing. Even vintage shoes tend to run in smaller sizes.

So consider taking advantage of the vintage option for great fit and unique flare.

This petite powerhouse has been on stage since the age of nine when she landed a role in Les Miserable on Broadway. By age fourteen, Michele was selected to workshop a daring new musical by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik about teen sexuality and in 2006 she became most well known for originating the role of Wendla in the Tony Award winning Spring Awakening opposite Jonathan Groff. That year Michele received a Drama Desk Award nomination for her role.

This fall Lea Michele can be seen bringing her acting and singing talent to the hit Fox show Glee. The show, which begins September 9^th, depicts the clique dynamics of high school and follows a ragtag group of musical theater junkies attempting to save their dying glee club. Michele takes the lovable role of bullied high schooler and breakout glee club star Rachel Berry. The pilot, which aired this past May, received rave reviews from both critics and audiences.

Why we love her

She may be small but Lea Michele wins big style points. Her classic elegance with a youthful edge shows off her petite frame perfectly. Her low necklines or leg baring hems elongate the body while her tailored waistlines create definition. Accessories in proportion to the body create a chic, modern style.

O is for Olsen Style

Oh the Olsen twins, you either love or hate their personal style, but regardless of your love for boho chic, I think you'll find it very hard to deny the glamourous laid back collection of their latest line from their label Elizabeth & James.

Mind you we may not all be available to afford these pieces, but considering how versatile and classic they are I'm sure you can find a few reasons to justify an 'investment piece' or two :)

Personally, I adore these petite fashion icons, for their carefree style statements, to their business sense and now for this line.

I plan on buying a classic dress shirt to wear with leggings this fall and tie a belt around to dress it up while elongating my frame.

Which Petite Wore it Better?

Petite celebrities are loving Victoria Beckham's designer dress collection, including, Leighton Meester and the latest – Dannii Minogue, stepping out in a midnight blue strapless gown with sequin waist panel, from the fashionista's spring '09 collection.

She wasn't the first to debut the statement frock. VB herself wore the dress for date night with husband David, back in December 2008. The golden couple headed to dinner together, with Posh teaming her self-designed dress with patent platforms, and a clutch.

Ms Minogue, in Australia, opted for similar styling, accessorising with classic pumps and a dark clutch.

Pay attention to the difference on the dress length, did Mrs B have hers altered, or is Dannii that much shorter?

Americas Next PETITE Top Model!

Wanna be on top?

Well, these girls certainly do!

The CW has released the names and photos of the 14 women who’ll be competing in cycle 13 of “America’s Next Top Model.”

At this point, the show has gotten pretty predictable, we know there will be a makeover episode, followed by tears by a few. We know Tyra will demonstrate to the ladies how to smile with their eyes. We know that some fool will be late back to home base after the go-see challenge.

But Tyra is shaking things up a bit this season, only women who are between 5’2” and 5’7” were allowed to audition.

So that means that there will be a few petites in the mix this time around!

Which may lead to a big change, since the fashion industry usually turns their back on anyone under 5’9”. Which then could mean.... more petite clothing lines?!

Here is a sneak peak of a few standouts; Ashley (left) is a 22-year-old artist from Brooklyn, New York, who appears to have a chill vibe and great style. Courtney (center) is a 5’4” cheerleading coach who looks like she escaped from the Glamour Shots booth at the mall. Then there’s Jennifer (right), who already professes that her profession is “model,” so, uh, what is she doing on the show?

We have our money on her because Tyra loves breaking new ground—the first black winner of “America’s Next Top Model,” the first Latina winner of “America’s Next Top Model,” the first plus-size “America’s Next Top Model.” Since Jennifer’s Asian and short, she’s a shoo-in.

Cycle 13 premieres on September 9, so set your DVRs!

Mackenzie Yeates - A Petite Style Inspiration

Mackenzie has been a style inspiration from the moment she walked into Accessorize when I was managing the store looking for a job.

She wore these amazing blue cowboy boots that I immediately wanted to copy.

Of course I she had my vote to work in the store because of her style and awesome personality to match!

Recently here in Toronto Holts has been looking for a correspondent for their events and to represent their fab Contemporary collections.

The finalists had challenges to style over the past few weeks and Mackenzie rocked them all!

Just two days ago I was walking uptown Toronto and I ran into her wearing a yellow polka doted romper! Adorable, by the way (Mackenzie, I need a pic!) She looked truly inspiring again and I asked her if she knew if she won yet, and she was anxiously waiting for them to call her! Then, just 2 hours later, I got a text and she WON!!

Congrats darling! You truly deserve it!
